Air spring applications

An air spring can be defined as an air reservoir made of rubber and fabric, shaped like a bellows, that can be used to support a load, isolate vibration and shock, or act as a cylinder by expanding itself.

Air springs have a wide range of applications across various industries. They are commonly used in the automotive industry, particularly in heavy-duty vehicles such as trucks and buses, to provide suspension and improve ride comfort. Air springs are also used in the railway industry, for both passenger and freight cars, to provide suspension and reduce vibrations. Other applications include industrial machinery, such as stamping presses and machine tools, and in the construction industry for heavy equipment and machinery. Additionally, air springs can be used in applications where high-speed vibration isolation is required, such as in aerospace and defense industries.

Crimped air spring components

This type of air spring is also known as a bellows air spring because it has one, two, or even three bellows in the rubber body. This air spring can be used in automotive or industrial fields as a suspension system or as a rubber actuator. The more turns an air spring has, the more stroke/travel it can have. However, two or three coiled air springs require more space and the space available in the application must be checked. Crimp air springs are more commonly used in industrial applications than the sleeve or rolling bellows springs used in the automotive and rail industries.
