Air spring use in hospital beds

Air springs are commonly used in hospital beds in the form of alternating pressure mattresses or air-fluidized beds. These beds are used to prevent and treat pressure ulcers, which can occur when immobile patients lie in the same position for extended periods of time. The alternating pressure mattresses use air-filled bladders that are constantly inflated and deflated in order to reduce pressure on specific areas of the body. This helps to improve blood circulation and prevent the formation of pressure ulcers. The air-fluidized beds use silicone-coated ceramic beads that are suspended in a flow of air to create a fluid-like surface. This reduces contact pressure and provides even support to the body. Both types of beds are designed to provide maximum patient comfort and prevent pressure sores.
